RISK
Playing This Game is a RISK
by Slam Dunkle
RISK is the ultimate strategy game. A game, that if played correctly,
can literally last days. Believe me, I know all about it. The Pill Bug
Olympics RISK competition is FINALLY over. After three days of non-stop
playing the game finally ended today when Josh of Campbella had his gray
army whipped clean by Desmond of Marylando's blue battalion.
A little history is probably needed. A normal game of RISK is usually
played between two to six players. However as an oversight, eight participants
were scheduled for this event. Therefore, the first ever eight man game of
RISK took place. Since there were so many players, the armies started out
extra small making early maneuvering very important. The participants were
Jarrod and Mikey of Butenia, Julie of Otros, Pill Bug of Buggland,
Mark of Marylando, Gwedo of Campbella, and the afore mentioned Josh and Desmond.
Pill Bug was the first to go. He may be a world class event organizer but he
doesn't belong anywhere near a RISK board. The second to go was Jarrod. Both
he and Pill Bug didn't last through the first fifteen minutes. About an hour
in Mikey was finally finished off. Three hours after the game started Julie
was defeated. The remaining four played into the night. The next morning
the game continued. As soon as it looked as if someone was about to lose
they would turn in RISK cards and get a big army and start kicking someone else's
butt. After the second day of playing Mark withdrew leaving only Gwedo, Desmond,
and Josh. Finally entering the second night Gwedo was trapped by Desmond and
Josh and they finished him off. Desmond and Josh played on for a third day and
as said before eventually Desmond came out on top.
This was the longest event in the history of the Pill Bug Olympics. It
was not the longest RISK game ever played though. This reporter hopes next time
around either this event will be removed or someone else will have to cover it.
I can't take another three days of watching people play a board game.
