Hiking
Happy Trails
by Larry the Fairy
Most people don't really know what is involved in the
hiking event at the Pill Bug Olympics. Each contestant isn't just
let loose in the woods and the winner is determined by who hikes
the best. No, each contestant is
given a map of an area that they will hike. They must follow a path
that leads them through all sorts of hazards like a cliff to climb or
a stream of swim. The person who makes it to the end of the trail first wins.
It is almost like an obstacle course race.
Competing in this years hike were Be and Kelly of Butenia, Bert and Marc
of Marylando, Demoss and Meghan of Campbella, Amanda of Otros, and Pill Bug
of Buggland. Pill Bug was well known for never finishing a hike, but other than
him the field was wide open. Each contestant had a different trail to follow. This
made it so no contestant would known how much they were ahead or behind the
others. After the first leg of the hike, Bert had an impressive lead. This lead
didn't last though because while climbing the mountain Bert fell spraining his
ankle. This didn't stop Bert but it did slow him down. With Bert's accident
slowing him down, Demoss caught up and took the lead. Demoss ended up taking
the gold with Bert coming in second for the silver. Be from Butenia walked
away with the bronze.
