All Night 8
Sleeping the Night Away

The All Night 8 is one of my personal favorite Pill Bug Olympic events
because it is something I know all too well about, sleeping. The idea behind
the All Night 8 is to see if you can sleep throughout the night without
waking up. Night is defined by eight hours of darkness. The event rarely takes place
during the actual evening hours. What make the event challenging are there
are things used to break up your sleep like dogs barking, people yelling, and
loud thunderstorms. Then usually with one hour left an alarm clock goes off
right by the contestants head. The winner is the person who can stay asleep the
longest. If multiple people make it the whole eight hours then there is a tie.
However no one has ever made it.
Competing in this years event were professional sleeper Ryan from Marylando
and his teammate Todd, Grace and Jarrod of Butenia, Elfin and Megan of Campbella,
Leon of Otros, and Pill Bug of Buggland. This event is usually wide open going in.
The only athlete with any real experience was Ryan of Marylando but he had
lost more events than he won. The event started with a bit of a surprise. The
contestants get a 15 minute grace period to fall asleep before the competition
starts. In that time neither Grace nor Todd could get to sleep so they were
eliminated right off. The next person to fall was Pill Bug who awoke during
the first distraction. The distraction was they played a porn really loud in a nearby
room which sounded like two people were having sex. Pill Bug perked right up as
soon as he heard it and was eliminated. Next to wake up was Elfin who woke up during
the dog barks. Ryan, who was predicted to medal, woke up next just out of
medal contention during the thunderstorms. About six hours in, Megan awoke
complaining she had to use the bathroom. She did win the bronze medal though.
The final two contestants made it to the seven hour mark where the alarm sounded.
This woke them both up with Jarrod waking up about 30 seconds after Leon to
secure the gold. Disgusted that he was 30 seconds away from gold Leon had this to
say. "You know this really sucks!"
