200 Spin
Spin City
by Ray Racke
In international spinning, two names usually come to mind, Mike
of Marylando and Cory of Campbella. For the past few years these two
athletes have dominated the spinning circuit. Not only do they
have that rare balancing ability very few people do but they spin
so fast you get sick just by watching them. The art of spinning is more than
just going around and around. You have to manage your dizziness. An art
mastered by very few people.
The 200 Spin is different than the other spinning contests. When you
get to where you are spinning 500 or 1000 times your main goal is to stay
on your feet and not fall to the ground puking. The 200 Spin is about speed.
The first one around 200 times wins not the last one standing. The
athletes competing in this event were Troy and Robbie of Butenia, Jamie
of Otros, Mike and Aaron of Marylando, Cory and Meghan of Campbella,
and Pill Bug of Buggland.
Going in Mike and Cory were the clear favorites. One or the other had
won almost every spinning event in the last few years.
As the spin started you could see Mike and Cory easily pulling away
from the field. They completed two spins in the time everyone else completed
one. About 50 spins in, Aaron from Marylando pulled up with a pulled
hamstring and dropped out. It looked like Mike and Cory were going to battle
to the finish line until Robbie of Butenia lost his balance and tumbled into
Cory. Cory was so far ahead of everyone other than Mike he still managed
to claim the silver but Mike got the best of him this time. The two will
meet again later in the 500 Spin, the 1000 Spin, and Sit & Spin where they
again will be favored except for Sit & Spin where they have struggled.
Jamie of Otros had a strong finish to come in third edging out Troy of
Butenia by three spins.
